February is Food for Fines Month at Warsaw Public Library.  February 2011 is a good time to return overdue library materials and clean out over-crowded cupboards. Bring in one non-perishable food item per currently checked out library item being returned that has overdue fines on it, and the fines will be forgiven for that item. Bring back those long overdue books, DVDs, audio books, and puppets!! You are of course welcome to bring in food items even if you do not have fines. All the food collected will be donated to our local food pantry.

This winter we will be participating in the If all of Rochester Read the Same Book program.

The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti

Twelve year old orphan Ren has been trying to solve the mystery of his missing left hand. When a man named Benjamin Nab takes him out of Saint Anthony’s orphanage claiming to be his brother, the adventure begins. The brothers journey through costal New England of the past meeting scam artists, grave robbers, a secretive dwarf, an old fashioned scary dentist, an evil industrialist and of course more petty thieves just like Ren himself.

Happy New Year

Research shows that you can ensure your child’s success in learning to read once he gets to school. How? By concentrating on six skills.

Print Motivation-loving books and reading

Phonological Awareness-ability to hear and play with sounds in words

Vocabulary-knowing the names of things

Narrative Skills– the ability to tell and retell stories

Print Awareness-knowing how to handle books and see print all around us

Letter Knowledge-knowing what letters look like and that they relate to sounds

Story time at the library can help you learn more about these skills. Join us on Tuesdays at 10:15. You are your child’s first teacher. Let us help you enjoy the time you spend together. Stop by and show off your print motivation!
